Abstract

'Design thinking' is an attempt to understand more deeply the meaning and scope of the word design in the context of digital society. Understanding design holistically is expected to make a designer able to create concepts that construct meaning. The existence of meaning contained in a designer's visual work tends to make the work has 'value' in the process of communicating its message. An effort to face the era of society 5.0 is a condition that requires the process of 'design thinking' in realizing a visual work. This qualitative research with a phenomenological approach tries to provide new findings about 'design thinking' to increase the value of interaction to the changes in community social actions. It is stated that the social construction that happened is the result of active actions to create meaning and reinterpret the activities of human social actions. Social construction is an active thought process of human action due to its impression of something (mental awareness) and the result of experience (memorable experience) to modify a constructed action. This understanding can conclude a statement that humans build the experience of 'something' toward a value created in the design interaction process.
